Underfloor/Subfloor Concrete Sealing

One of the most prolific sources of computer room contamination is from unsealed subfloor concrete slabs. An unsealed subfloor is in a continuous state of oxidation that produces what's known as concrete dust. Concrete dust releases millions of corrosive particles that become airborne when mixed with your subfloor's pressurized airflow. Once airborne the dust can be carried into sensitive areas such as equipment air intake vents and can have a serious adverse effect on your expense components.

The ideal time to seal the subfloor is during construction of the room before any raised flooring has been installed. For a myriad of reasons many raised floors have been installed without the concrete slab being properly sealed first. Before staring the actual process of encapsulating/sealing the slab, the first step is to thoroughly clean all surfaces of the slab to ensure the sealing agent will properly adhere to the concrete surface. Not only will the slab need to be vacuumed but hand wiped as well in order to remove any particulate and dust that vacuuming alone does not remove. The next step is to carefully lift and secure underfloor cabling. Once the first two steps are completed, the process of applying the sealing agent can begin. CCS utilizes a clear non toxic, odor free, quick drying permanent sealing agent that is specifically designed for concrete encapsulation. Most rooms will require two coats and (depending upon the size of the area) can be completed in one or two days.
